Here is a link to my folder on Animal/Zoology from my PBSlearningmedia page. You can look at any of the videos for free. Most will have you thinking about human impact on animals. Let me know what you think. I will add other folders as we study the subject matter.

Fall 2012
Our trip to Homer Lake on Thursday, October 18, almost didn't happen. Luckily, a bus driver came to our rescue. Mrs. Nikolai's class and Ms. Slifer's class enjoyed the sunny ride due east to find Homer Lake Preserve. Once there, we divided into the two classes and were led on separate paths to observe, listen and see nature. Our group found deer tracks, a hawk feather and a gall on a leaf. We observed the sun shining through a hole in the trunk of a tree. We noticed leaves of all sizes on the forest floor. There were still leaves on the trees even though we had endured a heavy rainstorm the night before. Ms. Emily pointed out poison ivy growing on a tree. She said it stays potent for several years even when dead and brown.
Science Curriculum
Our class is piloting a Space unit written by two Unit Four Teachers along with our director, Kristin Camp. Our class plus a class at Booker T. Washington will experience it now. We will revise the unit in April and present it to teachers in May as a new unit for next year.
A moon journal is due at the end of February. Each night students should be looking at the night sky and writing or drawing about what they experience and see. Poetry, Creative Writing and Art will be used to fill in the journal. If it is cloudy, you can opt to check out the website, EarthSky.org or any other credible science site. At EarthSky, you will see a tab to the right on the top bar called Tonight's sky. This will take you to a new page with photos and articles pertaining to that night's sky.
We will be talking about gravity, the planets, as well as stars during this unit.
